I have been staying in Singapore for about three weeks and I have decided to finally move along to Kuala Lumpur. But guess what? The morning of my supposed flight, I overslept and completely missed it.
As soon as I learned that I was going on a little detour by a quaint town called Melaka, I instantly looked up the best place to stay with clean rooms, accommodating staff, and budget friendly prices, and it lead me to discover The Bunk by Olive.
After an almost 10 hours of riding a bus from Singapore to Johor Bahru then Johor Bahru to Melaka, I finally arrived at my hostel. Oh, and on a side note: I really liked that Fanny Pack.
The Bunk by Olive is well decorated and it features a common room with plants, good lighting and lots of windows for air to go inside.
There are plenty of seats and tables for you to do your work in peace because there is nobody to bother you, and the staff are always very considerate.
The walls in the common room are decorated with picture frames with no pictures inside, and instead, they put coloured papers to fill it up.
This is probably my favourite spot in the whole hostel. Although I think it would be quite nicer if they took out the coloured papers and replaced them with proper photographs of travel destinations from all around the world or photographs of what is there to see in the Town of Melaka.
I just love this couch and the details of the pillows.
On most days when it is too hot for me to go outside, I just usually sit around the hostel and read a book. I am so glad that they have a bookshelf for visitors to borrow.
Now here is a fun fact about me: if you don’t already know, my favourite flowers in the whole world are sunflowers. I just love how vibrant, alive and tall they are. Sort of like me in a way.
This is definitely one of the childhood anime’s that me and my brothers watched whilst we were growing up. It’s called ‘One Piece.’
It would have been nicer if they had real flowers, but I get that it’s going to be very hard to maintain. So we could settle for fake ones for now.
I swear, I need a chair like this for my apartment!
It just looks so cosy and airy. I love it! I spent most of my time sitting on these chairs chatting up with my friend from Russia, Natalia.
This is a sign that they posted on their bathroom. I couldn’t agree more, heh!
The rooms at The Bunk by Olive are clean, spacious and their air conditioner is fully functioning that’s why it’s always cold when we’re inside.
Although here’s the problem I encountered: they didn’t have electric outlets near the beds. All they had was this and it’s connected to a wall by the door. I’m the type of person who usually does her work in bed with my laptop so this was a rather inconvenience for me.
But other than that, the beds were comfortable, the pillows were soft and the casings were clean and they smelled good.
One thing I always complain about when staying at bunk beds is how my head always get hit. I think I’m just too tall so it’s not the hostel’s problem, I guess.
I also love that there is a window so the light and the air could flow into the room. We could all use some fresh air every now and then, right?
I also loved how soft their duvet is! Duvets are definitely a factor that I look into whenever I check into a hostel or hotel. I love comfy, thick and soft duvets! So glad they had one at The Bunk by Olive.
All in all, I had a terrific time staying at The Bunk by Olive. This is a hostel that knows what their visitors want, and they really prioritise cleanliness and comfort. I really recommend this hostel to everybody who wants to visit the quaint and beautiful Town of Melaka.
SUGGESTION/s: I’m not gonna lie, this hostel was pretty hard to find because it was pretty hidden when you look at it and when you try to find it in plain sight, so I think they should make a bigger sign for visitors to see them faster. Oh, and the issue with the electric outlets. I hope they make outlets near the beds because standing whilst charging and using your phones or squatting to use your laptops whilst charging can cause a little bit of inconvenience.
DIRECTION/s: All buses from Johor Bahru (or anywhere, really) would arrive at the Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal. From there, you can take a taxi or Uber/Grabe which I recommend more because of the fixed prices. It’s usually just 15MYR. For the directions, you may click HERE.
