Lately, I have been working every single day from 9a to 2a. That is how long my days are–sometimes even longer. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. I love my life, and I love all the work that I am doing. But this past weekend, I was reminded that it is completely normal and that it is alright to take some much needed rest.
You see, working is good. I love doing the work that I do, because I feel like it accumulates to the career that I want to establish. So in every project that I end up doing, I make sure that I always give in my 100%. It is great, and it does pay off. But in the long run, our minds and our physical selves end up being too exhausted. This is what I experienced this past weekend.
I was reminded of this verse in the Bible from Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Juggling three [online] jobs is not an easy task–as a matter of fact, it is very exhausting. But it does not have to be this way. The Lord, himself, said that He will give us rest. What do we have to do? All we have to do is come unto Him. It is that simple. It really is.
I also feel like sometimes, 24-hours is not enough time because I always end up running out of time. But you know, when I gave everything unto the Lord, my whole perspective and mentality changed. He gave me the strength and the rest I needed to get through each working day. One of my personal prayers before going to bed is that the Lord grants me rest for the night, and strength in the morning. I also try not to do any work during Sunday’s because that is my Sabbath day. Which has been really great for me, and it gives me time to listen to my church’s sermon and read my Bible. It also became my time to reset my mind and get ready for another work week.
Let me tell you that resting is not a lazy thing to do. As a matter of fact, it is such a strong thing to do. Some people do not rest, and it has taken its toll on some of them. We have to take care of ourselves, because if not us, then who will? We have to rest, every once in a while. Finding time to rest is necessary to be productive in our certain work fields. It really is necessary.
So the next time you feel terrible, down and exhausted, just remember that all the Lord asks of us, is to come unto Him. He will surely grant us the rest that we need. Take it from me, this will, most definitely, change your life.
“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.”
Psalm 59:16 NIV
