I spent three weeks in the beautiful country of Singapore. I know, that’s a pretty long time, but I just really fell in love with the country and its people, and I wanted to explore it a little bit more. Plus, a friend from New York was coming so I wanted to wait for him so we could explore the country together.

The first week, I stayed at Lodge 41.

Lodge 41 is a cosy hostel around Geylang District. I know, I was told that Geylang was actually Singapore’s ‘Red Light District’. I found out when my Uber driver was driving me there from Boat Quay, hahaha.

I loved the atmosphere of the place. They have movies that you can watch in their own movie room, they have books, a fridge and just a really big common room. I also loved the fact that most of their workers were Filipinos. I felt right at home!

This was a little board that was on the wall. I think the guests can put some notes in here. I love the fact that it shows genuine gratitude towards the guests and the staff/management.

Just a little note that actually means so much. What are you grateful for today?

This is the common room. You can eat breakfast here, which is free. They have toasts, jams and coffee/tea.

If you go straight, the next door leads to the movie room. I spent most my time at the movie room whenever it was too hot to explore outside, heh.

I love this part of the wall where there are different encouragement quotes posted. It’s like, when you’re lacking motivation, you can just look at this wall and you’ll be refreshed.

The furniture was also very nice! I loved the details and the colours of the chairs.

They have a little board that shows which train you need to ride to get to a certain spot. You can also check which bars are open and which train you need to catch. I think this was very helpful to travellers who don’t really know where they want to go or what they want to see. I, sometimes, just go with the flow so I think this really helped me a lot.

If you’re feeling hungry but you’re a bit lazy to go out, they have an ‘Honesty Snack Bar’ where you can help yourself to food and just pay $2 SGD.

This was definitely one of my favourite motivational photo from that wall full of them. It says, “stay humble, hustle hard”.

Of course, a selfie because the lighting at the common room was very nice.

I wasn’t able to take photos of the rooms itself because it was very dark in the room and my camera’s memory card was acting up. Honestly very sorry. But you can click HERE to be redirected to their website.

All in all, I think that Lodge 41 was a cosy hostel that feels more of a home than a dorm. The people I met in this place were very awesome, and the staff made me feel so comfortable. Lodge 41 was also very conveniently located. There were a lot of food stalls nearby, a lot of convenient stores where you can get water, chips and just other miscellaneous stuff from. Oh, you can also use their washing machine and dryer for free! You only need to buy your own laundry detergent. Clean clothes are actually a luxury for travellers so it’s definitely a great thing!

The only downside was, the bathrooms were always wet and sometimes there wasn’t any toilet paper. Also, I’m actually a pretty tall person and the bunk beds usually give me a pretty hard time because it’s too short for me and I always end up hitting my head. Ha!

SUGGESTION/s: I think it would be really nice if there’s a strict time where the staff would turn on the lights themselves because I usually am awake at 8AM and I’d be busy writing on my journal or reading my Bible and devotionals, but people would still be sleeping and I’d hate to turn on the lights myself because I wouldn’t want people to hate me. I also think that the staff should always check the bathroom if there are any toilet papers because at my stay here, there’s always no toilet paper available.

DIRECTION/s: The nearest MRT Station to Lodge 41 was Aljunied via the Green Line. From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to the hostel. You can click HERE for the direction.
