As a Christian, I think it is a necessity for an individual person to be a part of a community of believers. This community are the people accountable for each of its member’s individual growth. This community are the people that you can run to when things are great, and most importantly, when this go terribly wrong. And of course, this community are the people who are going to accept and love no despite all of your past mistakes. They will never make you feel unwanted, unloved or condemned. These are people of God, and you should surround yourself with people like these.
For years, I have been attending the same church. My family attended this church, so it was kind of expected that I should attend this church too. I grew up in this church, and I have seen so much and experienced so much with my friends here. But lately, I have been feeling a rather odd longing. I have a longing inside of me that says I don’t belong here and that I should find another home church. Of course, I prayed about it and spoke to God about it, so at the moment, I am in search of a home church.
I can’t really speak for a lot of people, but for myself, I can say that it is very possible to outgrow the church that you used to call ‘home’. When you feel like you are no longer learning, or when you feel like you are no longer inspired, I feel like these are symptoms that says, you need to look deep down and pray if you’re in need of a new home church.
Of course, pastors are still humans. We can never really ask for too much from them, because like us, we are all still sinners after all. But we have to encourage one another. And in order to do this, I think we have to belong to a community of believers who believe in the same principles, same faith and same morale that we individually believe in
As I approach a new season in my life, I firmly believe that the next coming months are going to be challenging. But as I search for a new home church, I am standing firm in faith that when I do find it, its people will accept and welcome me with open arms. Now that’s a thought that I really am looking forward to!
