With the quarantine season making everyone quite bored and restless, I figured it would be great to look back on a magical weekend spent in Tepoztlan. We came to Tepoztlan by the invitation of Hostal de la Luz, and boy, did we have a wonderful weekend!
Tepoztlan was about two hours away from Ciudad de Mexico, and we took the bus from the South Bus Station on the very end of the blue line.
As soon as we arrived in Tepoztlan, we were greeted by these majestic mountains. We knew, right then and there, that we were not in the city anymore. We were excited!
After eating lunch in the city proper, we took a taxi for about 45 minutes to get to Hostal de la Luz. It was a bit far from the city, but the journey was so worth it!
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a nice lady who walked us through our schedule for that weekend. We were up for a meals at their restaurant, massages, a hydrochakral therapy, a temazcal, and swimming up until we got tired! It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Well, it sure was!
You can have your meals right here, overlooking the mountains!
As soon as we walked into the place, we knew that this was a different kind of resort. It was more of a spiritual retreat. We have never been to one, so it was extra exciting!
I took my roommate, Shauna, since they said that I could bring an extra guest. Also, Dante was eager to come!
Obviously, we had to take photographs because us enjoying such a nice hotel room to ourselves was very rare occurrence when you are backpacking. So we had to make the most of it.
Of course, I had to take some portraits with my darling boy, Dante.
Also, a solo portrait of myself that I begged and annoyed Shauna into taking for me. Hahaha!
Obviously, Dante wanted one of himself too!
Here is our beautiful little balcony. It comes with a hammock, a table, a set of chairs, sunshine, and a view of these majestic Tepoztlan mountains. I could not ask for more.
Shauna and I each had a very comfortable bed for ourselves. For someone who shares a bunk bed with two other people, we were very satisfied with sleeping on our own beds!
Dante wanted a photograph of himself on the bed, so here it is.
These doors were pretty cool too, and it leads up to our private balcony.
This was a statue that was displayed outside of our room. I must say that it does look very zen.
The ambiance in the resort was very calming, and we liked it very much. It was very clean, very bright, and it just felt like we were at peace when we were here.
We had the following treats and treatments when we visited:
- 1 breakfast
- 1 lunch
- 1 dinner
- a hydrochakral therapy for 30 minutes
- a holistic massage for 50 minutes
- a private temazcal with a shaman
- a holistic activity for 50 minutes
It was very great and it was a very packed weekend! We enjoyed it very much, and we would like to thank Hostal de la Luz and Diana Sanchez of Hostal de la Luz, who arranged everything for us. Our stay had been very smooth and pleasant, and I cannot recommend this place enough if you would like to unwind, and just get out of the city’s busy buzz.

Having said we enjoyed Hostal de la Luz would be such an understatement. We had such a great experience, and we went home feeling so relaxed and ready to slum it again. Hahaha!
Again, massive thanks to everyone at Hostal de la Luz for being so kind and generous to us. It had been such a pleasure to stay with you all, and we will, most definitely, come back for more!

I hope you guys are all safe at home, and that you are practicing frequent hand washing. We will beat this virus, and we will be out again on the road in no time…hopefully! Be safe, friends.

I came here to your web site through Workaway, as I was looking for a travel companion in El Salvador.. Who knoes if we could meet each others? Here in El Zonte there is right now a job opportunity. When the borders will open again if you come down here and are interested I could explain about it. -R!cca+

May 16, 2020 at 14:41Hi Riccardo! Thank you so much for our message. Workaway is such a great website, and I’ve met a lot of wonderful friends through it. Maybe we’ll meet someday, somewhere along the way. Although I’m not in Latin America anymore. I actually had to catch one of the last flights home when the COVID-19 broke out. So, we’ll see. Hope you’re fine!
